Complete Kansas Voter ID Laws
All of the following must contain the name and the photograph of the voters and must not be expired. However, voters aged over 65 may use expired ID.
* The following are exempt from showing ID: persons with permanent disability that makes it impossible for them to travel; members of the merchant marines and uniformed armed services who are active on duty and absent on election day, as well as their spouses and dependents; any voter whose religious beliefs prohibit photographic identification.
Note: It is now necessary to show proof of citizenship (birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers) in order to register to vote for the first time or re-register if you have moved out of state and moved back. Proof of citizenship may be photocopied and mailed or faxed in after the voter registration form is submitted.
Students who lived in Kansas prior to attending school and who wish to establish or keep their Kansas voting residency (i.e., at their parents’ Kansas address) should have no problem doing so, unless they have already registered to vote in another state. Students who intend to make their school address their principal home should have no trouble establishing voting residency in Kansas.
Individuals convicted of a felony are ineligible to vote while incarcerated, on parole, or on probation. Voting rights are automatically restored upon completion of all supervised release. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote.
